Frequently asked questions

Is the peanut PestOff 3.0 really squirrel proof?

Yes. Dual all-metal baffles, an anti-cling ring and spring-loaded ports that close under a squirrel's weight block squirrels from every angle, so only small birds can feed.

What food does it take?

It takes peanuts, mealworms or suet pellets. The food is not included.

How much does it hold?

It holds 2 litres — fill once and watch for days. It measures 19 × 19 × 54 cm and weighs 0.7 kg.

How is it different from the seed version?

It's the same squirrel-proof PestOff 3.0 feeder set up for peanuts, mealworms and suet pellets instead of mixed seed and sunflower hearts.

Will small garden birds use it?

Yes. The ports stay open for lightweight songbirds, and stainless steel perches give them a comfortable grip; only heavier animals trigger the ports to close.

Where should I hang it?

Hang it at least 45 cm (18 inches) from walls, fences and branches squirrels could leap from, for the best results.

How do I clean it?

It comes apart tool-free for cleaning with warm soapy water and a bottle brush; rinse and air-dry before refilling.

I LOVE my Roamwild 3 bird feeder and had it filled and hung up within 10 minutes of it arriving!

( Just a helpful hint for your packing dept though. Make sure the ends of the box are really securely fastened with strong tape as the box had come unfastened during delivery but thankfully the inner contents were in tact.)

Unlike my other feeder ( version 2,) that I purchased from you, this new version had the “ Corvid Covers.”

I have never before had any trouble with larger birds and the smaller birds can eat in peace, BUT for some unknown reason we have suddenly had an influx of tenacious and very agile magpies who spent ALL DAY emptying my unprotected feeder!

I enjoyed watching them and was astounded by their efforts and abilities!

I thought our squirrels were ingenious but the magpies gave them a run for their money.

I have the feeders hanging from a metal pole “ feeding station” and they used the pole to cling on to ( almost upside down) while they reached for the seed with their beaks.

I want the feeders for all the smaller birds as I feed the larger birds regularly from a wall top.

( The saying is appropriate that they “ see me coming” as they start calling to each other as soon as I approach the wall!!)

SO…… my husband has been commissioned to make a new weatherproof pole that will have a much wider “ T shaped top” with plenty of height so the feeders can hang down out of their reach!!

( It’s his birthday gift to me. I’m a “ low maintenance” practical woman, who loves things home made, so it will be a perfect gift.)

The new feeder is less accessible to magpies having the covers but I wondered if it’s possible to fit something onto my “ style 2” feeder to stop that being attacked until I get my new pole. Any ideas?

(If not, my long suffering and very resourceful hubby will have to try and invent something!!)

Thankyou for the wonderful hours of pleasure I have had by using your lovely bird feeders that AT LAST the squirrels can’t raid!

( I have tried so many others in the past, that just weren’t effective. We have generations of squirrels on our land, but there is enough natural food for them, so I don’t want them raiding my feeders!)

I will never buy any feeders now that aren’t from Roam Wild, and have recommended your product to all my friends.

Our garden is a haven for all wildlife but I am so very aware of how some of the smaller birds can suffer with lack of resources or from zoonotic diseases from contracted from other birds and other species.

On that note, I would also like to thank you for making your feeders so very easy to strip down and sterilize…. It’s my regular Sunday afternoon job!

A very well deserved 5 stars for your excellent designers.
Kind regards,
Mrs Christine Scholes.

The birds hate it and have barely eaten a thing from it. Very, very disappointing.

Jennifer Hamley · 1/5 stars · Verified buyer · October 2026

The peanut dispenser -even when the peanuts are cut up - does not allow the birds to eat from it. I then bought some sunflower hearts and these have the same problem. They just aren't available for the birds.

The new feeder for the Goldfinches is now in use ! I have kept the old Nyger feeder alongside at present until they are quite used to the new one
The peanut feeder I have yet to set up as only just got a supply of peanuts
The window feeder which has been in use for months now is very popular with bluetits .I usually have to refill it daily! However I recently filled it with Calciworms instead of Mealyworms which they won’t touch Why is that?!

Right so I was very skeptical given the issue I had with magpies. I actually bought the squirrel buster from Living With Birds before this and unfortunately the magpies got to it no bother.

With this however, they haven't even bothered trying as I don't think they physically can. Instead, the tits and specifically my robin friend love it especially with sunflower hearts. It took them some time to use it and we're quite reluctant especially as I also have fat balls available. I also have a great spotted woodpecker who is able to use it as well without triggering the weight on the feeder.

It really is great, the only negative I have is it is very large meaning it does stretch down past my plastic dome on the feeder to block squirrels. The squirrel hasn't yet tried jumping on the feeder but I'm confident it will fail miserably and when it does. I'd have preferred a smaller sized option but honestly I can make it work and get a taller feeder stand.

Highlight recommend for small birds!

Hopefully the magpies won't get too smart. But to nite there is the corvid blocker that comes with it so would be interesting how that works if needed but I'd be reluctant to using that as well as I want easy access to my small birds.

Great quality, but oh I wish the birds would visit it! May be its early days, but I've followed your advice but still no birds. I'm using the same food my daughter uses in a nearby village so I hope it's not that.
The COVID covers are a great idea but although they are clicked in place, the holes seem very high up in the port. I've removed them.

This is a great looking feeder! Strong, and I love the roof tops to keep the feeder dry. This is my first time feeding the birds so they are yet to find their food.

I now have 5 of the feeders, the birds are almost queuing up for their turn, I have different feeders and have Tits, finches, sparrows, robins all using them. The larger birds give them a go but with the perches closing the feed area up and little spilling on the floor they leave them alone now and use other feeders I have for them and this is very rewarding to see.

We’ve had this model for around 3 months and I’ve never seen a small bird feed from it. We’ve tried it in 2 different places.
Could it be the seed we are using which is just the generic bird seen you buy.

Hi there, we're sorry to hear you're having trouble attracting birds. Birds are creatures of habit so we advise customers to keep one of their old feeders in place as part of our set up guide. Sometimes placement and local bird activity can affect visits. The birds take a little time to discover new feeders.

Do you have other busy feeders in your garden?

Please follow steps below - It can take some time for the little birds to build confidence with a new feeder:

Hang both your old feeder and new PestOff feeder next to each other - 1 foot apart.

Fill both feeders with 100% sunflower hearts, the little birds go crazy for these.

Let the old feeder run out (do not refill) and then hopefully the little birds will simply hop onto your new PestOff bird feeder.

Arrived well packaged. Assembly for the PestOff bird feeder and starling proof cage was easy with clear instructions.
Also got the Bird butter feeder which was easy to fit, was surprised at the size but not disappointed.
All the items were of good quality, will have to see how they stand up to the winter months otherwise so far pleased with the purchase.

I have a few different feeders from roamwild and they have been great. Always had the blue tits and great tits and other birds but for the first time living here for just over ten year's I had two goldfinches on my feeder and I was over the moon.

We've got two of these - sunflower hearts, and nyjer seeds versions - and highly recommend both, build quality and functionality is exceptional. Both feeders were adopted almost immediately by tits & finches, with the occasional spotted wood pecker, and nuthatch, while pigeons and doves keep the lawn below clear. It's reassuring to watch the crows, parakeets and squirrels raids thwarted.

The feeder is very nicely made but sadly the birds don't like the pestoff plastic guard and won't use it, I removed the guard and they were on it straight away, now all the feed falls on the floor and the pigeons eat it just like my previous feeder.

It’s the best feeder to feed the little birds only.
